If you’ve ever had an interest in writing, you’ve likely also had a budding interest in blogging. While not entirely the same, the parallels between the two are enough that writers often go to the internet in search of ways to hone their craft. But gone are the days where bloggers would aspire to become writers. These days, blogging has carved an entirely different niche in the internet world and those that are successful, carve out an equally nice living off of it. My personal interests lie somewhere in the middle…a novice writer looking to develop an entirely new fantasy world, and a novice blogger looking to advance my skills and develop a following of readers. This series will chronicle my efforts to do both…simultaneously. You’ll see more about what I mean as you read on, so I hope you stick with me to see how this crazy plan unfolds!
If you google ‘blogging income reports’, you’ll find a few that have created a staggering number of followers, such that their incomes swell to six figures…a month! A little more research and you quickly discover that these types of reports are for a select few…not even 1%. In fact, the majority of blogs don’t make any money at all. So what did those initial blogs do differently? Why did they succeed where others failed?
I first started blogging about 3 years ago, and I’ll admit, my first attempts were met with very limited success. But that’s okay right? Very few people have been successful at something without first being horribly UNSUCCESSFUL at the same thing. So kudos to me for getting that out of the way early! But seriously, there’s definite reasons most blogs don’t make money…shoot, probably the biggest is because they don’t even try. Or more importantly, they didn’t know they could. The articles I intend to post in this series are to detail where I went wrong, and the steps I took to correct it, as well as to give other bloggers the inspiration to start making a living off of their craft.
Maybe you’re starting your first blog and are intrigued by the idea of earning a little spending money along with way…maybe you just want to ‘break even’ and absorb all of your expenses with a little change at the end of the month because you just enjoy writing…or maybe you want to quit your day job and write full time, with a salary that matches (or even exceed!) your current gig. Either way, I hope you’ll find the insights I provide worthy of your goals. If you’ve applied any of my tips or strategies and are met with success, then I’d love to hear from you!
